How Is SEO Done By a Professional Company?

SEO For Small Business

Wondering how SEO is done by a professional company?

Here’s a basic overview of what an SEO professional does to improve the trust and relevance of your site in the search engines, specifically Google.

Hiring a professional to handle your SEO is one of the best investments you can make in the future of your business.  Google’s algorithm is constantly updating.  Search engine optimization is a specialized skillset.  Only a current SEO expert will be able to enhance your website’s reputation without risking Google penalties that can get your site deindexed (out of the search results all together).

Are you wondering how SEO is done? Hi, my name is Jennifer Glidden from nextdoorseo.com. I would be happy to talk with you about some of the basics of SEO. First of all, SEO is all about getting websites ranked as the first result in the search engines, primarily Google. Google gets over 80% of the traffic. We’re looking at how do we rank websites at the top of Google. That’s SEO in a nutshell.

What’s going on there? Essentially, Google, we have to look at how Google wants to deliver results. That is, they want to get the most trusted and the most relevant results to the people who are searching. The goal is to make your website the most trusted and relevant. How do we do that? There are things that we can do on-page, and there’s things that we can do off the page, so from other websites pointing to your website.

On-page, there are a lot of different things that we can do, in terms of just the metadata, the title, the content, having addresses on the page, all sorts of things that tell Google, yes, this is a real website, this is a real business. And making it friendly for Google to read, also making it consistent for Google to read. So, it’s not coming across errors, all sorts of things like that.

So that it knows that whether someone’s on a desktop, or a mobile site, or a mobile platform, that they can look at your site, and have a good experience. They don’t want to have to zoom in to see your site on a mobile device. All those things factor into the on-page. Off-page has a number of different things that SEOs will use, and some of those are social properties, and social signals.

Places like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, you know the drill, right. You’ve heard of these social media sites by now. Social can play into that, different directories depending on what kind of business you have. Directories may play into it. Then also just getting other trusted sites that are relevant to link to your site.

In the big picture, it’s pretty straightforward. But there are over 200 ranking factors with Google, and so it’s important to know which ones have the most weight, which ones matter the most. It’s really easy to get misled by old information, because Google’s changing their algorithm all the time, to stay ahead of people who are trying to game the system.

It’s really best to have a professional SEO do your SEO, if it really matters to you, if you’re dealing with high value customers, and you just want it taken care of. You want to make that investment in getting your site to the top of the search engine, so that you can get all those calls from the free organic traffic. Then SEO only makes sense.
